Walgreens Becomes The First Nationwide Pharmacy to Talk About Cannabis as Medicine

Politicians and prohibitionist fight daily to discredit millions of cannabis patients across the world. However, a growing group of doctors and researchers are speaking out to educate patients about the true science of medical cannabis.

Now, you can add Walgreens to that list. And this… is a big deal!

Walgreens, the leading drug store chain in the United States, posted an educational overview of medical cannabis. Written by Dahlia Sultan, PharmD Resident Pharmacist at Walgreens and the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The post describes why the use of medical cannabis is debated but focuses on the science and efficacy of cannabis. Including,

  • How Does Medical Marijuana Work?
  • How is Medical Marijuana Used?
  • What Are Potential Side Effects of Marijuana?
  • What are Common Uses for Medical Marijuana?

“Research on the health benefits of marijuana is ongoing, but current studies have proven that cannabinoid receptors play an important role in many body processes, including metabolic regulation, cravings, pain, anxiety, bone growth and immune function.” -Walgreens Blog Post

As Ricardo Baca from the Denver Post mentions, “For America’s largest retailer of pharmaceuticals to speak this straightforwardly about cannabis certainly signals a sea change.”

While this certainly is an encouraging step forward, you won’t be able to pick up your medical cannabis at a Walgreens anytime soon. The post ends with an ever so safe disclaimer, “Disclaimer: Walgreens is not a licensed medical marijuana provider.”
