How To Have A Smart Discussion About Cannabis (with anyone!)

Marijuana, Cannabis, Pot, Weed, Grass, everyone is talking about this plant. Politicians, National news media, local news stations, even the White House.  How do we have a smart discussion about cannabis?  What do you really know about this plant?  I hope this article educates you on the power of cannabis.

First, I’m attaching my recently updated Cannabis Extract Report at the end of this article as a free download. It is quite long, but if you can make it through, your power will increase immensely. Knowledge is power, and power brings confidence.

Below I’ll outline the most compelling points and how to talk about this in an intelligent way.

1. Starting with the science is most compelling:

There are studies going back as far as 1974 showing how THC induces apoptosis (programmed cell death) in a wide variety of cancers. In addition to directly killing cancer cells, it stops cell migration, adhesion, proliferation, respiration, and more, through a wide variety of pathways. Some of these effects occur when cannabinoids bind with the specialized cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2. Many anti-cancer effects occur independent of these receptors as well, so even in areas lacking in cannabinoid receptors, anti-cancer activity can still occur.

Non-psychoactive cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, CBC, and CBGV also kill cancer cells, and studies suggest they do this most effectively when presented together. Dr. Sanjay Gupta has talked about the importance of the entourage effect, along with Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, the Israeli scientist who discovered THC in 1964. In practice, patients are reporting the best effects when using whole plant oils rather than isolated cannabinoids.

It is remarkable how many different mechanisms the various cannabinoids operate through to kill cancer in cell and animal models. Many opponents are correct to point out that successes in these models will not directly translate to humans. However, the case is special for cannabis. For one, many scientific studies in these models show cannabinoids are very effective against epilepsy. Nobody denies these effects are translating to humans. So why not cancer?

There is far more research showing that cannabinoids work against cancer than epilepsy, and even more people reporting this success.

Moreover, our bodies produce endocannabinoids, chemicals which are similar in structure to plant phytocannabinoids like THC and CBD and bind to the same receptors. Scientific studies show that endocannabinoids also kill and inhibit cancers through the same pathways and in some of the exact same cancer cell lines as phytocannabinoids. If we already have endocannabinoids in our bodies killing cancer, it just makes sense that phytocannabinoid supplementation would work. And in practice, that’s what we are seeing.

2. REAL DOCTORS; They already have the proof we need:

World-renowned doctors are taking this seriously. Dr. Mechoulam, mentioned above and who is widely considered the father of cannabis research, formally called for clinical trials of cannabis extracts for cancer because of the overwhelming anecdotal cases. If he and other doctors are taking this seriously, so should the government.

Many doctors themselves are involved in treating cancer with cannabis. Dr. Robert Melamede, working through the corporation Cannabis Science, produced medical documentation of skin cancers being eliminated with topical application. Dr. William Courtney is well known for a Huffington Post article showing a brain tumor disappearing with the sole use of high-CBD cannabis oil. A recent article with Dr. Jeffrey Hergenrather, a former ER doctor and President of the Society of Cannabis Clinicians, was quoted in an article saying that nearly all forms of cancer are responding to cannabis extract treatment.

For the past six years, individuals from across the world have also been reporting cancer remissions with extracts. Many terminal cancer patients have provided medical documentation of their complete remissions. Alone, it would be easy to dismiss these stories as hyperbole. But the sheer number and dramatic nature of them, combined with the work of doctors, corporations, dispensaries, and the scientific studies which perfectly explain it, warrants these cases be taken seriously. CannabisExtractReport.com has organized all these stories together, and when taken the time to examine, it is simply impossible to say this medicine isn’t killing cancer in humans.

There is even an article in the November 2013 Case Reports in Oncology journal documenting success against leukemia in a human patient, which formally ruled out spontaneous remission or chemotherapy as causes of remission.

3. Understand cannabis is NOT a silver bullet or ‘cure all’:

There are hundreds of verified anecdotical proof on the efficacy of cannabis. Every day more and more people are sharing new Cannabis Success Stories. That is not to say this works in all cases for everyone. Some people and some cancers, as Dr. Hergenrather discussed, seem resistant for some reason. This is to be expected with a completely unregulated and unstandardized medicine. There needs to be immediate research into what strains of cannabis work best for which conditions. There may be some conditions that won’t respond no matter what. But the bottom line is that many terminal cancer patients have the potential to recover completely with this medicine. There is no reason to withhold this chance at life from them, and with further research, success will only grow.

While THC is required for many conditions and especially cancers, its psychoactivity can be reduced or in many cases completely eliminated by combining it with other cannabinoids. THC can also be utilized in its unheated, raw form known as THC-acid, which has many of the same properties but no psychoactivity. Even when psychoactivity is experienced, it is mild compared to drugs like opiates and benzodiazepines, which are regularly administered to children without question.
